Location: Broadmoor School, Mentor, PreK - 12 Developmentally Disabled, ages 3 22 years
Reports To:Principal/Program Supervisor
FLSA Status:non-exempt
Summary:Performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in the classroom to assist teaching staff by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
As directed by the teacher, assist in the instruction of students with disabilities by:
- Reviewing and becoming familiar with student's IEP.
- Preparing and/or organizing instructional materials and lessons.
- Instructing child using appropriate methods and materials.
- Correcting student assignments, tests, and homework.
- Maintaining appropriate records.
- Assist in supervising student with disability in any instructional setting (regular classroom, special education classroom, lunchroom, playground, recreational/physical education activities, field tripsand hallways) during the school day.
- Assist in supervising student with disability in Behavioral management of child using the appropriate methods and techniques.
- Assist in supervising student with disability during the arrival and departure of students.
- With proper training, assist student with personal health needs and non-medical procedures.
- Position and/or perform one-person or two-person lift of a child when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality in all work responsibilities.
- Set a professional image through the use of interpersonal skills to include: courteous manners; proper work attire; a positive attitude; and, a cooperative demeanor.
- Respond and interact with children and adults in a positive, thoughtful, and appropriate manner.

Education, Experience & Certification:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training. Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
