Location: REMOTE - Driving distance to Louisville, KY or Lexington, KY
Travel: Site visits every other week to once per month (regional)
OverviewWe are seeking a Project Engineer to support utility infrastructure projects with a strong focus on substation-related work
, project estimating
, and clear technical documentation
. This role partners closely with Project Managers and field teams to support project planning, scope development, and execution across both office and field environments. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a balance of field exposure and office-based project coordination
, and who values strong communication and organized documentation.
- Support substation-related projects
, providing engineering and field exposure (expertise not required) - Assist with project estimating
, including developing and maintaining Excel-based cost estimates - Conduct field and site visits to support project assessments, scope validation, and constructability reviews
- Prepare and maintain project documentation using SharePoint, including scope details, decisions, schedules, and updates
- Partner with Project Managers to answer technical questions and support understanding of project scope and sequencing
- Document project changes, assumptions, and decisions to ensure alignment across teams
- Support project planning by helping define scope, sequence of events, and execution approach
- Mix of in-office engineering and documentation work and field/site visits
- Collaborating with Project Managers to clarify scope, timelines, and sequencing
- Reviewing project information and translating field findings into clear project documentation
- Updating cost estimates and tracking scope changes
- Participating in project meetings and follow-ups
- Experience as a Project Engineer or similar role
- Substation project exposure (hands-on or observational; expert-level not required)
- Estimating experience
, including building or modifying Excel-based estimates - Strong written communication and documentation skills
- Experience maintaining project records, decisions, and scope documentation (SharePoint or similar tools)
- Utility, power, or electrical infrastructure project experience
- Familiarity with project sequencing and construction workflows
- Experience supporting Project Managers in active project environments
- Balanced field and office engineering experience
- Exposure to utility substation projects
- Opportunity to work closely with experienced Project Managers
- Clear expectations, structured documentation, and hands-on project involvement
