JOB SUMMARYGIS Analyst role provides analytical support for a variety of projects which aim to streamline the mapping and design process. The GIS Analyst analyze information by using various criteria, integrating GIS with other technologies, designing databases, and collaborating with CAD technicians. A GIS analyst reads geographical data, enters it into the GIS system, and performs data analysis.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Collects, edits, and processes GIS and mapping data from various sources to produce tools and products which meet internal and external customer requirements
- Import, export, and convert mapping resources and data into GIS systems and platforms
- Utilizes Feature Manipulation Engine platform(s) to translate spatial data between geometric & digital formats
- Performs quality control checks on completed projects
- Perform on-going, periodic tasks related to geospatial database maintenance
- Prepares and submits reports of project updates, as needed
- Performs a wide variety of advanced process and analysis functions to develop the City’s geographic information system (GIS) and is responsible for its operation, administration and information quality and integrity
- Provides technical consultation to a wide range of technical and non-technical employees using the GIS to compile reports and studies
- Responsible for documentation and ensures the integrity and security of the data stored in the GIS and related/integrated databases
- Key contact for GIS within the project team
- Completion of tasks received from engineers and the GIS manager
- Integration of data from multiple sources into the spatial data repository
- Conducts analysis, interrogation and manipulation of spatial data received from stakeholders and third parties
- Experience using ESRI ArcGIS
- Skilled in SRI ArcGIS extensions: 3D, Spatial, Network and Tracking Analyst
- Experience of providing GIS support to multidiscipline, client focused, project environments
- Deep understanding of spatial data formats and spatial reference systems
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proven experience of delivering to deadlines within pressurized environments
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
- Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python
- Proficiency with front end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages
- Ability to analyze problems and perform needs assessments
- Strong judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result
High School Diploma or GED
REQUIRED RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE AND NUMBER OF YEARS- Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS and Carto 3+ years
- Experience with GPS measuring tools 3+ years
- Experience of working with and controlling a large number of evolving datasets 3+ years
- Experience using FME Desktop and Server 3+ years
- Experience using AutoCAD software (including Civil 3D and Map) 3+ years
- Hands on experience of using CAD derived data within a GIS environment 3+ years
- Degree in Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or a degree qualification in GIS
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements
- Physical Demand:
Position requires light physical activity - The work environment of a GIS analyst is quite diverse since these individuals will spend time in the field collecting data as well as time in the office entering data, creating software or making maps
- As such, it is possible that these individuals will be exposed to harsh climates from time to time and may be required to travel for extended periods
- Most analysts work standard 40 hour workweeks, but this can fluctuate based upon the current project and the employer (for instance, if an analysis of a property line is needed for a court case, he or she may be required to work long hours until the project is complete)
