Job DescriptionBAE Systems, one of the world’s largest defense contractors, is hiring a Senior Industrial Engineer at our Louisville site. The role focuses on the fabrication and assembly of major Naval shipboard components and follows a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
- Identify the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow
- Establish methods for maximum utilization of facilities and personnel
- Reduce waste, rework, and cycle times
- Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, and the purchase/lease/maintenance of equipment
- Design factory layouts that align with the plan and vision for safe delivery
- Collaborate with internal departments (Program Management, Production Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, Purchasing, Finance, and Operations) to develop a world‑class manufacturing facility
- Develop and deploy a framework to sustain the utilization of lean concepts
- Create a process improvement roadmap for assigned value stream focusing on lead time and cycle time reductions
- Engage in regular communications with production support, planning, logistics, quality, manufacturing supervisors, Safety, and direct labor workforce to assess operations performance
- Summarize and present findings to internal customers to gain buy‑in for improvement efforts
- Discuss status of metrics and key performance indicators with Site Leadership
- Participate in projects outside of day‑to‑day scope to broaden knowledge and add value cross‑functionally
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (engineering or technology)
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
- Excellent planning, time management, organization, and ability to handle multiple assignments
- Effective written and spoken communication skills
- Experience with computer applications, CAD programs, and model manipulation
- Project management experience in a relevant manufacturing environment
- Experience with developing cost‑benefit analysis, ROI and estimating production standards
- Ability to obtain a security clearance
- Defense contracting experience
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Baan or Oracle)
- Background in welding, machining, and assembly processes in a heavy equipment or component environment
- Six Sigma and/or Lean certification
- Experience with Capital Project management
Full‑time salary range: $86,460 – $146,982. Individual salaries are determined by market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
