R&D Hardware Senior Mechanical Sustaining Engineer
** About the

The Role ,
** The Senior Mechanical Sustaining Engineer provides technical and project leadership for Packsize’s value engineering efforts. This role helps lead a small team of engineers while remaining hands-on in value engineering work. The position is accountable for planning, prioritizing, and delivering measurable cost-reduction initiatives across machine platforms.
** What You’ll Do
*** Lead and prioritize value engineering initiatives across multiple machine platforms
* Analyze machine architectures for standardization, simplification, and reuse opportunities
* Drive modularity and platform thinking across mechanical and electro-mechanical systems
* Provide technical leadership and direction to other engineers
* Own project planning, execution, and reporting of cost-reduction initiatives
* Perform system-level design trade studies balancing cost, performance, reliability, and serviceability
* Partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Supply Chain
* Review and approve engineering changes and ensure proper ECO/ECN execution
* Mentor engineers in design-to-cost, DFM/DFA, and value engineering methodologies
** What You’ll Bring
*** BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
* 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and sustaining engineering
* Demonstrated leadership experience in technical or project-based roles
* Proven track record of delivering measurable BOM and lifecycle cost reductions
* Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills
* Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering change processes
** Nice to Have
*** Exposure to electrical systems, sensors, PLCs, and general industrial controls
* Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers
* Background in modular product platforms or configurable machine systems
* Hands-on prototyping and machine build experience
** A Few Other Things
** Up to 15% travel as needed.
