Senior Design Stress Engineer

BWX Technologies, Barberton, OH location is seeking a Senior Design Stress Engineer to join the team. This individual will help lead and perform stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and contribute to innovative solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products.
  • Utilize and conduct finite element analysis, custom post-processing software, and closed-form analytical techniques.
  • Perform and lead standard and advanced structural analysis methods including linear elastic sizing, fatigue, elastic-plastic, fracture mechanics, shock and vibration, and thermal/mechanical analysis.
  • Review and lead work for accuracy and compliance with technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (manufacturing, quality, welding, drafters, thermal-fluids, etc.) to generate component designs that meet code requirements and optimize for manufacturability.
  • Work closely with on-site manufacturing to resolve fabrication-related issues in real time.
  • Communicate effectively in internal and customer presentations and written technical reports.
  • Lead efforts to reduce cost and span of current components.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering.
  • 5 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in finite element analysis (FEA) software (preferably Abaqus or Ansys).
  • Experience in 3D CAD to manipulate design models for analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Code Section III and VIII or AISC.
  • Experience with computer programming codes (e.g., C++, Fortran, Python).
  • Program management experience.
