The Outside Sales Engineer is responsible for driving sales growth and developing long-term customer relationships within the HVAC industry. This role works closely with consulting engineers, contractors, and internal teams to identify project opportunities, provide technical solutions, and support projects from initial design through completion. The Outside Sales Engineer serves as both a technical resource and business development partner while supporting overall revenue and profitability goals.
Responsibilities- Achieve or exceed individual sales goals, performance expectations, and key business metrics established by sales leadership.
- Support overall team revenue and profitability objectives through strategic account management and business development efforts.
- Develop a strong technical understanding of the HVAC equipment and systems represented by the organization.
- Work directly with consulting engineers and customers to assist with system design, equipment selection, and application solutions.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive communication, technical support, and excellent service.
- Collaborate with the sales team to identify opportunities, support ongoing projects, and contribute to overall team success.
- Maintain accurate customer activity, project updates, and sales information within CRM and internal tracking systems.
- Coordinate with Operations, Project Management, and Application Engineering teams to support project development and execution.
- Provide necessary project details and technical information to internal teams for quotation preparation, order processing, and project support.
- Assist with reviewing submittals, project documentation, and order acknowledgements as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in regular performance and development discussions with sales leadership.
- Approximately 50-75% travel within the assigned sales territory expected.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering highly preferred.
- 3+ years of sales experience within the HVAC industry required.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, applications, and industry standards required.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE guidelines and mechanical system design principles highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and related project documentation required.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship building skills required.
