The Stark County Building Department is accepting applications for a Plans Examiner (full and part-time opportunities available). Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Plans Examiner is responsible for examining and improving plans of complex new construction, alterations, and repair for conformance with all engineering, materials, legal, and administrative requirements defined in building codes.

A sample of illustrative duties include:

  • Reviews building plans and inspections for compliance with applicable national, state, and local codes;
  • Responds to inquiries on building code interpretations from the Board of Stark County Commissioners, permit applicants, contractors, architects, and engineers;
  • May be required to give testimony and/or represent Stark County in legal matters pertaining to a specific plan review;
  • Keeps current on code requirements and other technical development;
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must have five (5) years of experience in building design, construction or inspection; or similar experience. Must possess a Master Plans Examiner Certification, as well as a valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Preference will be given to those with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited university and those registered as a Professional Engineer or Architect.

Must have knowledge of state and county building codes; electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes; engineering and architectural practices; construction practices; fire safety codes; inspection techniques and procedures.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this position has been set at $65.00/hr.

Full-time positions are eligible for health, dental and vision insurance and OPERS retirement benefits as well as other supplemental offerings.

The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
