This role is based in Louisville, KY. Frequent travel between our Kentucky locations will be required.
The Role Is The KY Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for managing environmental compliance programs at Heaven Hill's facilities in Louisville, Kentucky and Bardstown, Kentucky. This role serves as Heaven Hill's day-to-day primary point of contact with environmental regulatory agencies and ensures alignment with federal, state, and local environmental regulations across Kentucky distilling, bottling, warehousing, and visitor experience facilities. This role also acts as the on-site liaison for sustainability programs at Kentucky facilities, partnering with the corporate Environment & Sustainability team to support execution of site-level sustainability initiatives.
How You Will Spend Your Time? Environmental Compliance
- Manage and maintain environmental regulatory permits for Kentucky facilities, including preparation and timely submittal of permit applications, renewals, and modifications.
- Complete required regulatory reporting (e.g., air emissions inventories, Tier II, stormwater monitoring) and ensure proper document retention.
- Develop, produce, and maintain environmental compliance plans and procedures, including SPCC and SWPPP.
- Conduct regular facility tours and inspections to assess environmental compliance, communicate with plant personnel, and ensure timely completion of environmental audits.
- Respond to environmental incidents and spills, providing on-site assistance with spill management and cleanup.
- Ensure timely investigation of all environmental incidents; partner with site supervisors to complete thorough root cause analysis and develop corrective action recommendations; track completion of corrective actions to closure and follow up on overdue items.
- Serve as the primary liaison with Kentucky environmental agencies during inspections, permit reviews, and emergency situations.
- Develop and deliver training programs and materials to meet regulatory requirements.
- Stay current on changes to federal and Kentucky state environmental regulations and proactively assess impact on facility operations and permits.
- Serve as the on-site operational liaison for sustainability programs at Kentucky facilities, supporting the Environment & Sustainability team's execution of zero waste, energy conservation, water stewardship, and other site-level sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate operational access, plant personnel engagement, and implementation logistics for sustainability programs run by the corporate sustainability team at Kentucky sites.
- Provide practical input on the feasibility, timing, and operational considerations of proposed sustainability initiatives at Kentucky facilities.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience in environmental compliance management or environmental consulting.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. federal and state environmental regulations and requirements, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and RCRA.
- Experience managing environmental permits and compliance programs for complex industrial or manufacturing facilities.
- Must be able to handle high-stress emergency situations with sound judgment and clear communication.
- Excellent critical thinking skills; uses logic and reasoning to identify issues and solutions.
- Strong verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with regulatory agency personnel.
- Excellent attention to detail when analyzing data and completing regulatory filings.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously while collaborating across teams.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to travel regularly to Kentucky Heaven Hill facilities.
- Valid Driver's License
- Previous experience in food or beverage manufacturing.
- Knowledge of TPM and continuous improvement principles.
- Demonstrated experience with Kentucky state environmental regulatory programs.
- Stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms.
- Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
