SUMMARY:

The Water Quality and Treatment Specialist is responsible for the daily operation of the River Ridge Commerce Center water system which includes (7) ground water wells, (2) WT3 water treatment plants, (1) booster pump station, and three (3) water storage tank facilities. This position will be responsible for
1) assuring the quality of water produced meets all applicable regulatory requirements and Louisville Water Company standards, and
2) assuring the quantity of water delivered to the River Ridge system meets customer demands and needs for fire protection.

This position will assume similar duties to the current River Ridge Lead Operator and eventually serve as this position’s replacement.

This position will also be responsible for executing various activities within the Water Quality and Research department to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations and further program initiatives.

ESSENTIAL

JOB DUTIES:

Operate and manage the water treatment plant, pumping, and storage facilities.

Respond to water production emergencies and develop procedures and processes to reduce future occurrences.

Manage, order, and receive chemical deliveries to meet production demands.

Conduct routine surveillance of plant and booster pump station equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly. Prepare and submit work requests for Louisville Water maintenance for any repairs needed. Coordinate and work with maintenance personnel to provide input on equipment issues, schedule the availability of equipment for maintenance work and develop interim strategies for major repairs.

Investigate and resolve problems associated with production, including equipment malfunctions, water supply issues, water quality data discrepancies, and safety incidents.

Assure water treatment, pumping and storage facilities are operated in compliance with all applicable safety and environmental requirements.

Effectively manage LWC’s relationship with River Ridge Development Authority staff, and their customers and stakeholders. Assist River Ridge personnel and other nearby water providers when needed.

Perform routine housekeeping to ensure facilities are clean, orderly, and present a professional appearance.

Collect, test, and report daily/monthly/quarterly production and water quality data for regulatory compliance and efficient operations at River Ridge. Maintain on-site operating and water quality documentation for regulatory compliance. Compile Monthly Reports of Operation for Indiana

Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) compliance.

Develop and execute water quality monitoring plans and support special studies to assess water quality and treatment performance and ensure compliance with drinking water regulations.

Perform chemical and microbiological analyses associated with drinking water compliance, treatment process control, customer complaints/requests, research and technology projects and special studies.

Operate and maintain lab and field equipment and instrumentation as assigned.

Maintain laboratory records and important documents/communications as required by Louisville Water and regulatory guidelines.

Maintain current knowledge and understanding of water quality regulatory requirements. Keep abreast of new developments in drinking water treatment and maintain technical competence through continuous training, independent study, and self-improvement.

Maintain Louisville Water Company standards concerning water quality, regulatory compliance, and treatment optimization.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

40 hours per week working in laboratory or water treatment facility. These facilities may contain hazardous materials and equipment.
