By joining our Engineering Support Branch as a Transportation Engineer II in Jefferson County, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee transportation projects and work with complex engineering components for all aspects ofroadway projects.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Manages and oversees activities of engineering projects with multiple phases.
  • Provides engineering judgement to evaluate and resolve design, maintenance, and construction problems.
  • Reviews and applies cabinet policy and standards along with industry guidance.
  • Interprets project plans and contract documents for various entities (contractors, property owners etc.).
  • Travels throughout an assigned area and state to address or confer technical or operational issues.

May be exposed to dangerous working conditions including rough terrain, Will frequently communicate in person or by phone. Work overtime or alternate work schedule.

Minimum Requirements
  • EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

    SKILLS:

    Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for

    EXPERIENCE:

    Master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a Master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for

    EDUCATION:

    NONE
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period.

    Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
