Job Description

Office of Family Assistance (OFA)

The Office of Family Assistance (OFA) provides operational, technical assistance and training support for safety net programs that assist low-income Ohioans. It manages public assistance programs like Ohio Works First (OWF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). OFA also develops policies for county agencies, administers the Ohio Benefits online system, and supports employment and training initiatives to help Ohioans achieve economic stability.

What You Will Do

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income individuals purchase nutritious food. This office reviews SNAP cases to ensure they are processed accurately and on time. In this role, you will evaluate the work of county caseworkers to confirm that decisions on SNAP cases comply with all applicable regulations.

Job Duties
  • Review food assistance budgets
  • Research food assistance policy
  • Manage and coordinate your schedule
  • Travel to counties to interview clients
  • Review screens in the Ohio Benefits eligibility system
  • Send contact letters to clients
  • Complete interviews with clients
  • Complete cases in the Federal System
  • Upload materials and verifications for each review
Challenges
  • Maintaining a timeliness and accuracy rate of at least 88% on each review
  • Managing and implementing policy updates
  • Independently managing multiple assignments with overlapping due dates
Schedule

Full-time

Hours:

Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Location:

This position will be headquartered at the Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215

Travel

Requires traveling 5-6 times per month. ODJFS Fleet vehicles are available for travel use. In order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver's license.
