PROMOTIONAL - Public Safety Telecommunicator II

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE

The role serves as the vital communications link between the public needing help and emergency services response. This entails working independently in a high‑stress environment while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency and administrative requests for services including law enforcement, Fire and EMS. The candidate will triage those requests, provide guidance and assistance to the public in life‑safety situations, and coordinate appropriate responses to high‑risk operations to keep all participants safe.

• Relay critical information, dispatch or initiate emergency response services.
• Advise responding field units of relevant public‑safety information and broadcast supplemental data.
• Monitor field units to ascertain locations and safety of personnel.
• Provide specialized communications to service agencies and task force units.
• Document all incident activities thoroughly and accurately while maintaining awareness of scene activities.
• Maintain a perpetual up‑to‑the‑moment public‑safety unit status file.
• Operate public‑safety radio systems, auxiliary radio systems and computer‑aided dispatch equipment.
• Triage incoming emergency and non‑emergency calls from wireline, wireless, text, video or automated feeds.
• Work mandatory overtime.

• Must be a current, regular employee of EMA/METROSAFE.
• High school graduation or GED equivalent.
• US citizen, minimum 18 years of age.
• No marijuana or controlled‑substance use within the last year of application, or prescription‑less drug use in the last six years.
• No felony convictions; misdemeanor convictions considered individually.
• Must submit to pre‑employment suitability, polygraph, drug screening, criminal history fingerprinting, and audiogram tests.
• Must work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
• Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Telecommunicator and LINK/NCIC Basic operator (Full Access) in Kentucky or obtain within six months of employment.
• Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and hold Basic CPR from an approved provider or obtain within six months of employment.

• Perform sedentary work involving walking or standing some of the time and exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis or sustained keyboard operations.
• Will work long shifts, up to 16 hours per workday.

Will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and emergencies (man‑made or natural) to meet the business needs of Louisville Metro Government.
