Rehire Officer

We currently have several vacant police officer positions within the Louisville Metro Police Department. To fill these positions with high quality experienced candidates, we are seeking retired police officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department. To help aid in your decision regarding applying, we have listed some facts below:

• The annual pay will be the same level of service the retiree had with LMPD when they retired. So, if they retired with 20 years of service their base pay will be at the 20-year rate which is $78,062.40 plus the $4,000 for KLEFPF pay for a total of $82,062.40.
• Retiree will accrue vacation time at the same level of service they had with LMPD when they retired. The amount of hours that a sworn person will accrue, on a bi-weekly basis, is determined by years of service. The schedule is for 1-4 years , a sworn member will earn 6.55 hours; for 5-9 years, 8.39 hours; for 10-14 years, 9.31 hours;
  
  15-19 years, 10.24 hours; 20-24 years, 11.16 hours; for 25-29 years, 12.09 hours; and for 30 years and over, 13.02 hours.
• Retiree will not be eligible for Metro Health insurance.
• Retiree may work an off-duty job after they complete the required initial training.
• Retiree will be eligible for a take home car after they complete the required initial training.
• Retiree will not be contributing into CERS nor will they get a second pension.
• Retiree will have assignment preference of patrol division, but the Chief of Police has the ultimate discretion based on needs.
• Senate Bill 206 was the legislation passed regarding the reemployment of retired police officers.
