Hours
  • Full Time
  • Our offices are open Monday–Friday 7 am–7 pm. Shifts will fit within these hours and may start earlier or end later as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitate patient flow

Summary

An Ophthalmic Technician assists an Ophthalmologist in delivering excellent patient care during visits, handling a wide range of duties and operating equipment for initial testing to prepare patients for the exam.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Practice urgency at all times with patients’ time, the doctor’s time, and the schedule
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient about medical history and current medications, and confirm purpose of visit
  • Record data in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Check eye condition by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as dilation, refraction, pressure tests, visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto‑refractor, and topography
  • Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
  • Conduct general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager

Education and Experience
  • Minimum required:
    High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum required:
    One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Licenses and Credentials
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred but not required
Systems and Technology
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Physical Requirements

This role requires frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs. Strong fine‑motor skills and full use of hands are essential. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be required.
