* Job Description:

** The Medical Laboratory Scientist-Technical Lead will use their thorough knowledge of Laboratory Science to assist the Laboratory Supervisor in maintaining laboratory standards in accordance with accrediting bodies, including, but not limited to CAP, CDC, CLIA, FACHT, FDA, JCAHO, and HCFA.  Using their knowledge and proficiency in the skills and practices of the section, they will be responsible for technical review of standard operating procedures, validation of new procedures, and review and coordination of quality control.

Essential Functions:

• Submits feedback to the Laboratory Supervisor for technical evaluation of section employees (includes Initial competency and skills assessment/validation)  
• Performs direct observation and ensures competency for all department staff  
• Recommends and implements improvements necessary to achieve operational goals and to improve patient outcomes  
• Monitors quality control and proficiency testing for department  
• Ensures that accreditation standards are met for department in accordance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, AABB, FDA, OSHA, etc.  
• Demonstrates comprehension of all procedures within the department as defined in the Procedure Manuals.  Reviews Manuals biannually, revises procedures as necessary  
• Evaluates new technologies for the section in conjunction with the Medical Director of the department  
• Serves in a problem solving role for the department  
• Assists in the orientation of new department employees as demonstrated by the completed orientation checklist in the employees personnel file  
• Meets regularly with Laboratory Supervisor and section Medical Director and seeks involvement regarding capital purchases, operational, and technical issues  Shift Requirements:

• Communicates to staff consistently  
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct   
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times  
• Performs other duties as assigned#

* Appropriate Bachelor’s degree to meet CLIA certification standards for medical laboratory technician (required)

Experience:

* Two (2) years of hospital laboratory experience in section leading (required)
* Previous experience with automated equipment in department supervising (preferred)
Certification:
* Medical Technologist certification (required) o    MT(ASCP)  o    MT(AMT)   o    MT(HEW/HHS)
* Beginning in January 2004, newly certified individuals must participate in The AAB Board of Registry (BOR) Certification Maintenance Program (required)
* Specialty certification from American Society of Clinical Pathology (SBB,SC,SH,SM, SCYM, SMB) (preferred)
