Job Description SummaryThe Ultrasound Technologist performs examinations according to established protocols. The Ultrasound Technologist demonstrates an understanding of human cross sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The Ultrasound Technologist maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and imaging technique. The Ultrasound Technologist supports the mission of the hospital and department by excellent customer relations skills.

- Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification
- Assesses patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure
- Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed
- Produces scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy
- Evaluates finished images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality
- Discusses technical findings with Radiologist
- Ensures examinations are complete to include Cerner completion and PACS review
- Instructs Radiology Residents and students in the Ultrasound scanning protocols (depending on facility)
- Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures
- Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities
- Assist in quality improvement programs in the department
- Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital
- Takes call as needed
- Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services
- Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure customer expectations are met including flexibility in schedule hours
- Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat and orderly
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Graduated from accredited US program (required)
Experience- 3 years prior ultrasound experience (preferred)
- ARDMS or within 1 year of hire date (required)
- Two specialty areas (i.e., abdomen, vascular, OBGYN) (Breast may be considered specialty by leader) (required)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (required)
