Overview

Build AI products that improve how a city works—for everyone.

Louisville Metro Government is building a modern, responsible AI capability to improve public services at scale—from permitting and open records to Metro
311 and public safety.

The Office of Artificial Intelligence is hiring an AI Product Lead to drive the discovery, design, and delivery of high-impact AI solutions across city government.

This is a senior, hands-on product leadership role at the intersection of technology, policy, and service delivery
. You will work directly with agencies, technology team, solution partners and public representatives to ensure AI investments deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, equity, and resident experience—while managing risk and security in a public-sector environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead intake, discovery, and scoping of AI opportunities with Metro departments; document pain points, business objectives, and success criteria.
  • Provide key inputs into prioritization of AI use cases based on impact, feasibility, equity, risk, and alignment with Mayoral, Council, and agency priorities.
  • Translate operational needs into clear user stories, functional requirements, and pilot charters.
  • Manage the full AI pilot lifecycle, including timelines, budgets, vendor coordination, testing, and launch.
  • Facilitate demos, user acceptance testing, and feedback sessions; iterate to improve usability and workflow fit.
  • Track pilot performance, ROI, and service outcomes; develop dashboards and reports for executive leadership.
  • Resolve cross-agency dependencies and ensure alignment with data, security, and IT standards.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Legal, IT Security, and leadership on SOWs, SLAs, and risk mitigation.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Design, or a related field.
  • Five (5-10) years of professional experience in product management, service design, management consulting, civic technology, or similar roles leading cross-functional technology initiatives, including ownership of at least three (3) initiatives from discovery through implementation (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum one (1) year of hands-on experience delivering technology or data products from concept through pilot and implementation, preferably involving AI, analytics, or automation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing stakeholders at multiple levels. At least two (2) years of experience working directly with department directors, C-level leaders, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize technical and operational input into roadmaps, briefings, and decision materials.
  • Practical understanding of responsible AI, equity, privacy, and risk in public-sector or regulated environments.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
Location

This is a hybrid position, but candidates must reside in Kentucky or an adjacent state and be able to travel to Louisville, Kentucky on a regular basis to support in‑person work, collaboration, and operational needs.

Why This Role Matters
  • You will be shaping how AI is responsibly deployed across an entire city, influencing how millions of interactions between government and residents work every year.

Louisville Metro Government (LMG) is committed to building a world-class city by delivering high-quality public services that strengthen neighborhoods, support economic growth, and improve quality of life. LMG is responsibly integrating artificial intelligence to modernize government operations, support frontline staff, and improve service delivery—while upholding strong standards for equity, privacy, security, and transparency. Through mission-driven innovation and a people-centered approach, LMG is shaping the future of public service in the Louisville metropolitan area.
