Database Administrator, Data Analyst, Data Engineer
Overview
The SQL DBA I designs, develops, documents and maintains database and business intelligence (BI) reporting environments to ensure that the performance, quality and reliability surpass the expectations of our internal and external customers. The position also aids BI/SQL Developers to assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues when needed. This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field plus 4 years of experience in a developer role.
The ideal candidate will have strong Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server, BI report/visualization, and data management skills. They should demonstrate excellent customer service, in-depth technical problem-solving/troubleshooting ability, and the ability to work independently.
Development
- Work autonomously to architect and develop database schema objects for reports and data management, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and indexes.
- Architect and develop BI tabular reports and visualizations/dashboards across reporting platforms (SSRS, Logi Analytics, Power
BI, etc.). - Analyze and profile data for creation of operational and analytical tabular reports and visualizations, including dashboards.
- Perform analysis and profiling of application data for accurate report writing and data management development.
- Create and maintain report, database, and architecture documentation.
- Assist Project Managers and Quality Assurance in development and testing efforts.
Production Support
- Work with project management and support team to ensure maximum performance and uptime of all customer systems, including troubleshooting of complex problems.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams to optimize performance of internal database environments.
- Analyze query performance using execution plans and other techniques to optimize queries.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, logic issues and performance issues (system, data, report, or DB code).
General
- Contribute to documentation of artifacts including functional requirements documents, design documents, and data management plans.
- Follow proper change management procedures and other team processes.
- Create standards for databases and assess whether developer database requests comply with these standards.
- Occasional travel to provide onsite implementation or troubleshooting support.
- 24/7 internal and external support for critical issues via an on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or Engineering
- 4+ years of experience in a report developer role on any relational database platform
- 4+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL
- 2+ years of experience in Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory
- Experience with Visual Studio, TFS, Azure Dev Ops, and GIT, including schema comparisons and source control
- Experience in the design and building of data models
- Experience in relational database design and tuning, including reading and analyzing execution plans
- Experience in database monitoring (e.g., Traces, Extended Events, Perfmon) and troubleshooting
- Experience in database sizing estimating and monitoring
- Ability to design, develop and create database objects on Microsoft SQL Server platform (tables, indexes, keys, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship
Travel Requirements
- 15% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Bastian Solutions)
