Position:Level 3 Route Switch Network Engineer
Location:
Onsite – Louisville, KY Duration: 6–12 months (Contract) Rate : $60 to $65/hr on w2
Role Overview
- The Level 3 Route & Switch Network Engineer provides advanced engineering, design, and escalation support for enterprise and operational technology (OT) network environments. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting highly available, secure Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks across corporate, data center, and remote/field locations, including substations and critical sites.
- Design and deploy Layer 2 and Layer 3 network solutions, including routers, switches, and supporting hardware
- Architect and support enterprise and data center routing using BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
- Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, trunking, STP, Ether Channel, and spanning tree technologies
- Provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex routing, switching, and network performance issues
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify latency, routing loops, and connectivity issues
- Participate in on‑call rotations for critical network incidents
- Collaborate with security teams to enforce network security policies, ACLs, segmentation, and firewall integration
- Ensure secure OT networking practices for substations and remote field sites
- Conduct network upgrades, firmware updates, and patching in a controlled and documented manner
- Execute network changes through formal change management processes
- Ensure high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery capabilities
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, runbooks, and technical documentation
- Work cross‑functionally with project managers, vendors, security, and infrastructure teams
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 network engineers
- 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
- Advanced expertise in routing and switching
- Strong experience with Cisco platforms (Catalyst, Nexus, ISR/ASR or equivalent)
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, QoS, and Layer 2–4 troubleshooting
- Experience supporting enterprise, data center, and remote or field network environments
- Experience supporting OT or industrial networks
- SD‑WAN experience
- Network automation or scripting (Python, Ansible)
- Cloud networking exposure (Azure or AWS hybrid connectivity)
- Certifications such as CCNP or CCIE
