Job Title: Data Reporting Consultant (Snowflake, Public Health)
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Role Overview

This role is for a Data Reporting Consultant focused on collecting, managing, and analyzing public health data, particularly birth defect data, using SQL and the Snowflake platform. The consultant will translate existing queries, develop new reports and dashboards, and ensure data quality for state and federal reporting, collaborating closely with epidemiologists and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate existing SQL queries from HUE Cloudera to execute on the Snowflake platform.
  • Collaborate with epidemiologists to develop SQL queries that incorporate program-based logic models based on reporting requirements and data structure.
  • Provide guidance and answer questions from epidemiologists regarding the structure, syntax, logic, and design of SQL queries during collaborative development.
  • Create queries for line-listed data, incorporating variables from many different data tables.
  • Develop summary queries of aggregate data using multiple stratification criteria and validate them against existing canned reports.
  • Utilize innovative approaches to develop data cleaning queries within complex data structures that identify sites and/or cases requiring follow-up.
  • Modify and troubleshoot queries during user acceptance testing to validate query functionality.
  • Provide detailed documentation within each query, clearly defining the logic and expected outputs for each section of coding.
  • Gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data used for analysis and reporting.
  • Create views or temporary tables within a sandbox database and/or schema to facilitate more complex queries.
  • Develop complex reports and dashboards for state and federal reporting.
  • Perform various types of testing, including unit, system, and user acceptance testing, developing test cases and scenarios, reporting and tracking defects, and triaging/resolving issues.
  • Train business users on analytic tools and data structures.
Required Skills
  • 5 years of experience developing and executing queries using SQL with minimal supervision.
  • 5 years of experience working with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements.
  • 5 years of experience conducting quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data used for analysis and reporting.
  • 1 year of experience working on a project using ANSI SQL on the Snowflake platform.
  • 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or other relevant field.
  • 5 years of experience in IT with consulting experience.
  • Experience collecting and managing birth defect data as found in the client's applications, including but not limited to the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Data System.
  • Experience collecting and managing birth defect data from the client's public health agency via the Innovate Ohio Platform (IOP).
  • Experience using Snowflake/ANSI SQL to select and transform data (including data conversion, pivots, and logical assignments).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
