Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail‑driven Senior Quality Inspector to support welding, machining, and assembly operations in a defense manufacturing environment. This role requires a strong background in ISO 9001 quality systems, Department of Defense (DoD) compliance, and military standards. The Senior Quality Inspector will serve as a key quality authority on the shop floor, ensuring products meet all drawing, specification, and regulatory requirements while mentoring junior inspectors and production personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform in-process and final inspections on welded, machined, and assembled components to verify conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct detailed visual weld inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 and applicable MIL-STD requirements.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.
  • Conduct and document hardness testing in accordance with ASTM and customer requirements.
  • Verify material traceability, certifications, and compliance with MIL-DTL and DoD material specifications.
  • Lead review of inspection records, First Article Inspections (FAI), and production quality documentation.
  • Generate and manage Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause and corrective action activities.
  • Serve as a technical resource and share inspection best practice with other inspectors and production personnel.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits related to ISO 9001 and DoD compliance.
  • Assist engineering and manufacturing teams with continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of quality inspection experience in fabrication, machining, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working within an ISO 9001 certified quality management system.
  • Experience with DoD contracts and compliance to MIL-STD and military material specifications.
  • Extensive experience performing visual inspections of welds and fabricated components.
  • Hands‑on experience performing hardness testing and interpreting results.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and other relevant welding standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital inspection reporting systems.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification.
  • NDT Level I or II certification (VT, MT, PT, UT, or RT).
  • Experience in defense vehicle, heavy equipment, or armored fabrication programs.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Quality, Manufacturing, or Engineering discipline.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding, machining, and heavy equipment.
  • Capable of standing, walking, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and wear required PPE.
  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier or customer audits.
