Lab Support Tech (Textile Testing)

The Arc Wear Division of Kinectrics AES, Inc. is located in Louisville, KY and is a leading provider of testing services for Arc Flash Protective Clothing and various flame and thermal protective products, as well as physical testing (strength, cut resistance, abrasion resistance, etc.) of (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment/Gear used in various industries.
About The JobAs Testing Lab Support Tech you will work alongside team members on client projects involving a variety of textile and (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment.
This role supports the Arc Wear testing team by ensuring textile and PPE specimens are properly received, prepared, conditioned, documented, and staged for testing in accordance with established standards. This role is critical to maintain test accuracy, repeatability, and laboratory efficiency but does not perform formal test execution or data analysis.
Specimen Intake and Preparation- Receive, log, label, and track incoming textile and PPE specimens in accordance with laboratory chain-of-custody procedures.
- Prepare fabric and garment specimens for testing, including cutting, sizing, mounting, labeling, and pre-conditioning per applicable standards and internal protocols.
- Condition specimens under prescribed environmental conditions prior to testing (e.g., temperature, humidity, wash/dry cycles).
- Prepare textile test specimens according to applicable testing standards (e.g. cutting, layering, and labeling).
- Verify specimen quantities, configurations, and documentation prior to transfer to testing personnel.
- Identify preparation discrepancies or non-conformances and elevate issues before testing begins.
- Maintain accurate preparation records, logs, and specimen tracking documentation.
- Ensure specimen identifiers align with test plans, client documentation, and laboratory records.
- Package and prepare specimens for return shipment to clients following testing.
- Coordinate internal specimen movement to prevent loss, contamination, or misidentification.
- Assist with special research or method-development projects as directed.
- Maintain preparation areas, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and compliant condition.
- Perform other laboratory support tasks as assigned.
- H.S. diploma required. Some science related college coursework preferred.
- 1+ years of prior work experience required. 1+ years of related laboratory experience preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed written procedures with consistency and precision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with cutting tools and fixtures.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team-based laboratory environment.
- Experience working in or having completed coursework involving the use of good laboratory practices is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
- The ability to effectively speak and write in clear, concise manner.

- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential job functions that may include standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching during sample preparation, including for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The pay range for this position in Kentucky (US-KY) at the start of employment is expected to be between $16-18 per hour. However, the rate offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Pre-employment criminal background investigation and drug screen are required of selected applicant.
