Summary
Director of Development is a community-facing member of the Advancement team, with a primary focus on developing, planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program that includes annual funds, major gifts, corporate support, planned giving and sponsor ships.
Organizational Duties and Responsibilities- Supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of St. Joseph Home. Facilitates and supports the design and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Supports all functions that attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others by exhibiting:
Individual maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace. - Participate in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain competency.
- Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve St. Joseph’s objectives.
- Reports (and if possible, provide intervention for) incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving children to the appropriate supervisor.
- Exhibits effective communication skills.
- Responsible for retaining and building the pipeline of current and prospective donors to cultivate and solicit new and elevated gifts for all fundraising campaigns, including annual and event sponsor ships, through a minimum of 40 activities (email, meaningful conversations, tours, etc.) per week, tracked through donor software system.
- Develop and direct a comprehensive donor cultivation strategy, with the specific goal of increasing overall donor support and positive community visibility for the organization through annual and capital campaigns, monthly giving program, picnic sponsor ships, appeals, and other advancement campaigns.
- Develop annual and long-range departmental plans to meet the budgeted development goals.
- Is responsible for the overall performance management of the Community Engagement Specialist.
- Coaching, counseling, and disciplining employee;
- Planning, monitoring, and appraising job results;
- Conducting training; implementing and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures;
- Communicate any challenges or changes to the CAO.
- Establish ongoing community relations to maintain ties with potential funding sources.
- Create fundraising initiatives that align with the St. Joe’s mission and relationships and work with CAO for approval, planning, and execution of those initiatives. These will work with current quarterly newsletters, brochures, annual solicitations, and direct mail pieces.
- Support the communication of the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development program to the Mission Advancement Committee and Board.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising professionals.
- Assist in consulting department supervisors concerning the resource needs for their departments.

- Attends and participates in administrative/staff/committee meetings/training as required and assigned by agency.
- Within departmental parameters, exhibits customer service, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Effectively prioritizes and coordinates job tasks for maximum productivity.

- Recognizes and works to eliminate situations that may lead to re-traumatization; understands and allows for mutual self-help to occur among trauma survivors by utilizing their lived experience to promote recovery and healing.

- Demonstrates proficiency in the necessary common and technical knowledge areas required for the position.
- Uses appropriate voice, is aware of development levels of clients served, encourages independence and self-help, and reinforces positive behavior.
