Job Description

The RN Shift Coordinator plays a vital leadership role in supporting unit operations and fostering a culture of clinical excellence. Working in close collaboration with the Clinical Managers and Nursing Directors, the Shift Coordinator serves as an extension of nursing leadership, empowered to address operational concerns, guide staff, and uphold standards of care during assigned shifts. This role includes holding team members accountable, providing timely feedback to the Clinical Managers, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and patient centered environment.

Essential

Functions
  • Provide support in optimizing staffing coverage and coordinating scheduling.
  • Enhance the patient and family experience by rounding to foster connections, address concerns in real time and implement effective service recovery strategies that promote trust and satisfaction.
  • Conduct quality rounds to ensure nursing staff consistently adhere to evidence-based practices aimed at preventing Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs), reinforcing a culture of clinical excellence and patient safety.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to established performance metrics and regulatory benchmarks, fostering accountability and continuous improvement across all areas of practice.
  • Actively engage in the staff interview process and contribute to retention strategies by fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that promotes long-term satisfaction and stability.
  • Deliver timely coaching and counseling, thoughtfully documenting each interaction to support staff development, accountability and continuous performance improvement.
  • Actively contribute to unit-based committees and participate in team meetings, fostering collaboration, shared decision-making and continuous improvement in patient care and operational excellence.
Other Functions
  • Consistently uphold the Code of Ethics for Nurses. This framework provides a principled foundation for ethical nursing practice and sound decision-making in complex care environments.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited/approved school of nursing (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited/approved school of nursing (Preferred).
Experience
  • One (1) year of clinical experience and additional experience as a Charge Nurse or other nurse leader.

Licensure:
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (Required).

Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (Preferred) unless the role is within a department where it is a mandatory requirement.
  • National Nursing Certification in Field of Specialty obtained, if not held at time of hire (Preferred).
