Under the administrative direction of the Family Health Centers Chief Nursing Officer, this position performs administrative and clinical supervisory nursing work.
Responsibilities- Assist the Chief Nursing Officer in planning, managing, and coordinating nursing programs and activities across all Family Health Centers.
- Direct and supervise professional and nursing support personnel at all sites, including in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Coordinate staffing of nursing personnel, both within the nursing department and interdepartmentally.
- Recruit, interview, select, and promote new and existing nursing personnel.
- Evaluate and document performance of nursing personnel; recommend improvements to clinical healthcare procedures and services.
- Assist in developing nursing policies and procedures; maintain the nursing policy and procedure manual.
- Serve on the Infection Control and Quality Improvement committees and other committees as directed.
- Coordinate nursing clinic activities and patient flow to other departments and clinic sites.
- Oversee the Cancer Screening and Promise (HIV) programs, including staffing, training, scheduling, monitoring, and auditing.
- Communicate with partner agencies involved in cancer screening compliance and improvement.
- Disseminate clinical, staffing, and other pertinent information to nursing personnel at all clinic sites.
- Assist providers with clinical patient care, counseling, and education based on growth and development principles.
- Plan and conduct in‑service training for nursing personnel.
- Mentor and evaluate nursing students as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Act as a backup for the scheduling clerk to develop and update nursing schedules.
- Serve as a resource person for other departments, committees, and outside agencies, including the Louisville Metro Health Department.
- Act as the FHC Ombudsman in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Travel between clinics as necessary.
- Adhere to universal precautions.
- Perform related work as required.
- Must be a current, regular employee of Family Health Centers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or another health‑related field.
- Three years of experience as a registered nurse in a primary care setting, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
- Possession of a current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Kentucky.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted, as determined by Civil Service.
Moves and/or lifts more than 100 lb when moving supplies, positioning patients, or assisting patients on and off the examination table, with or without assistance.
Special Requirements- Must obtain CPR certification within 60 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
- Must provide own transportation to work at other FHC locations as needed.
- Must work a varied work schedule.
- Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.
- Must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B, provide evidence of immunization, or sign a declination form within 10 days of initial assignment.
- Must be on call for 7 days, 24 hours a day in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.
