Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring that all medical and physical health needs are met for the clients in the Residential Treatment Program and coordinates medical care for Therapeutic Foster Care clients in collaboration with TFC staff and foster parents.

Essential Functions
  • Ensures that all medical and physical health needs are met for the clients in the Residential Treatment Program.
  • Coordinates medical care for Therapeutic Foster Care clients in collaboration with TFC staff and foster parents.
  • Oversees that all initial, on‑going and follow up medical/dental/vision appointments are made with medical providers within designated time frames.
  • Must work closely with on‑site Physician/Psychiatrist by scheduling appointments, maintaining regular communication, ensuring adequate supplies, maintaining documentation and collaborating with program staff/foster parents regarding client medical needs. Performs interventions as ordered by Physician/Psychiatrist in an accurate/timely manner.
  • Provides Medication Administration Training for all residential medication passers and oversees staff compliance with medication administration guidelines. Ensures that medication discrepancies are appropriately identified and documented. Notifies parents/legal guardians of any medication changes for the Residential Program.
  • Orders, obtains and verifies all prescribed medications for residential clients through the contracted pharmacy provider and maintains a professional, collaborative relationship with pharmacy staff. Responsible for the safe disposal/return of unused medication.
  • Is responsible for preparing the LOA for children off campus and prepares needed items for discharging clients.
  • Ensures clinical practices follow the board of nursing guidelines to ensure optimum client care.
  • Ensures the presence of a safe and therapeutic environment for children.
  • Completes all documentation per agency's policy and procedures, licensing, and COA, as well as adhering to all of the agency's policy and procedures.
  • Provides health/medical and medication related training to residents and staff, including, as appropriate, a review of children’s health needs and a review of the organization’s health and safety practices during new employee orientation, annually to all staff, and as requested throughout the year.
  • Provides medical consultation as needed for all three programs.
  • Maintains accurate medical records for residents.
  • Provides emergency medical treatment to residents and children in the Child Development Center when on site.
  • Inventories and orders medical supplies in conjunction with program staff.
  • Participates in treatment planning and administrative meetings.
  • Serves as a liaison with medical community and maintains a professional relationship with community providers.
  • Provides non‑judgmental and non‑discriminatory care to each child.
  • Administers and records employee TB Skin Test, COVID‑19 tests, and Drug Screens as requested by Human Resources.
  • Takes an active role in the revisions and drafting of policies and procedures related to the Health Office and its functions, which includes attending Safety meetings.
  • Performs competently in crisis management. Certification in SCM is preferred. Utilizes these skills as needed to assure the safety of the individual clients.
  • Is responsible for obtaining required staff development/training as set forth by St. Joseph Children’s Home Policy and Procedures, COA, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Sixteen hours of which must be successfully completed in Safe Crisis Management.
