A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SCHOOL HEALTH SPECIAL NEEDS LPN
As the Special Needs School Health LPN, you will assist in providing one‑on‑one care to a student who is medically fragile in their classroom and possibly during their transportation to and from school. You will provide services that support students’ good health and wellness, help them improve health conditions, and meet each child’s functional and health needs. Your responsibilities include warmly interacting with children, constantly assessing their needs, administering medical intervention services, first‑aid services, and medication in accordance with school district and PSI policies, completing and maintaining required documentation of student health records, and collaborating with educational professionals to promote healthy relationships among community health providers, students, parents, and the broader community.
You will partner with families to help them navigate any health challenges in the school environment, using your medical expertise to improve the lives of children in ways that are enjoyable and rewarding.
- Current LPN license through the Ohio Board of Nursing
- Experience working with medically fragile children (strongly preferred)
- Knowledgeable about communicable disease prevention and medication protocol
- Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to appropriately handle confidential information
- Experience with trach care, vent care, tube feeding, and catheterization (strongly preferred)
- Collaborative, constructive team‑building skills (required)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (required)
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills (required)
