Job Description
The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) will deliver nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. The RN will use nursing practice competencies, leadership competencies, professional profile competencies, and practice outcomes competencies to provide safe, optimal, patient- and family-centered care.
Essential Functions- Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission through discharge, collaborating with the healthcare team and family to ensure safety.
- Independently administer medications within licensure authority, assess and document medication effects, and adhere to patient safety guidelines.
- Plan care with the patient/family using current scientific knowledge and national patient safety goals, incorporating interdisciplinary data.
- Identify and prioritize patient problems based on assessment data, safety considerations, and patient/family goals.
- Implement nursing interventions to meet patient and family needs, demonstrating sound clinical judgment.
- Educate patients and families from admission to discharge, ensuring sensitivity to age, learning needs, and cultural background.
- Evaluate care by reviewing patient/family responses to interventions and revising the interdisciplinary plan of care as needed.
- Advocate for patients and families, ensuring respect for rights and preparing them for discharge.
- Collaborate with unlicensed assistive personnel, ensuring safe delivery of care.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and appearance, and be accountable for actions.
- Orient new team members and supervise students in their duties.
- Act as relief charge nurse when needed.
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education, licensure, and professional activities.
- Participate in evidence‑based practice activities such as journal clubs and discuss outcomes.
- Communicate constructively within the healthcare team and resolve conflicts appropriately.
- Perform duties cost‑effectively, avoiding waste of hospital resources.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (required).
- All new‑hire Associate Degree RNs are required to start an approved BSN program within one year of hire and complete it within three years (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (preferred).
- All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must complete all activities (required).
- Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred).
- Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required).
- Basic Life Saving (BLS), AHA accredited (required).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), AHA accredited (may be required for specific areas).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), AHA accredited (may be required for specific areas).
