A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are priority objectives. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. Supervision of licensed and non-licensed staff members is part of the RN's responsibilities.
The RN utilizes the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care. Responsibilities include assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. Utilization of educational and professional experiences is crucial for the delivery of quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff is required.
Assessment:
Performs assessments and reassessments per policy or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Development & Implementation:
Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. Reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support organizational and patient needs. Evaluation:
Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
Education:
Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. Ensures appropriate care, treatment, and services are provided during their stay and dership:
Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor and preceptor. Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards. Participates in governance models as required.
