A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective, patient-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN applies the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN uses educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assessment:
Performs assessments and reassessments as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound, independent decisions. - Development & Implementation:
Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. Reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patient/family and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of patients and families. - Evaluation:
Monitors and documents response to clinical interventions. - Education:
Facilitates and provides education specific to patient and family needs. - Leadership:
Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor/preceptor and encourages teamwork. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Complies with regulatory standards. Participates in the Practice Governance model.
