Responsible for providing nursing services to the students to further the ministry and mission of Bright Hope Learning Center.
Accountability Areas and Critical Tasks Health Services for Children- Assess health/medical needs and gather pertinent data of new and returning students.
- Assess and treat as appropriate health and/or medical needs of the children as they arise during the school day.
- Administer medication and/or treatments as ordered by the child’s physician.
- Administer over‑the‑counter medication with the signed approval of the parent/guardian.
- Coordinate and assist with tube feeding for students requiring such.
- Document all services given on treatment log, medication log, and in the child’s record as appropriate.
- Collaborate with classrooms and therapeutic staff concerning emergencies. If the child needs to be transported by ambulance, the school nurse may be called upon to accompany the child if a parent is not available.
- Review, along with the Director, the immunization records of each student, ensuring they are up to date and signed by a physician.
- Provide OSHA information to all new staff, emphasizing universal precautions.
- Provide information on Hepatitis B, vaccination, and opportunity to receive through Bright Hope Learning Center.
- Maintain and update OSHA guidelines in coordination with supervisor.
- Review OSHA guidelines annually with all staff members.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas – nurse’s office.
- Schedule CPR certification for staff members once or twice a year.
- Assure that at least one classroom staff member is certified in CPR.
- Consult with parents and classroom staff regarding health/medical needs of the students and OSHA procedures.
- Model proper medical care of the students and OSHA procedures for classroom staff.
- Provide in‑service training to staff, volunteers, and parents, as needed.
- Coordinate with staff regarding the medical needs of the children.
- Consult as needed with other medical personnel involved in the medical care of the children.
- Licensed in the State of Kentucky.
- At least one year’s experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Maintain professional license and CPR certificate.
- Excellent skills in:
Pediatric nursing, documentation, organization, interpersonal relationships, team work.
- Daily attendance at flock if employed full time.
- Attendance at designated staff meetings.
- Attendance at Back to School Night.
- Attendance at BHLC fundraising events:
Bright Steps and Garden Party. - Attend workshops/seminars as requested, CS in‑services and relevant conferences.
- Read professional literature as specified by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements
- Personal relationship with Christ that has been manifested consistently for the duration of her/his life as a Christian.
- Must have an appreciation for trans‑disciplinary team approach to Special Education.
- Experience with children birth through six years of age.
- Excellent skills in: communication, ability to learn new tasks, teamwork organization, initiative, and ability to work independently.
- Self‑discipline.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with all BHLC staff as a team member.
- Demonstration of emotional stability, maturity, and a desire to grow spiritually such that spiritual principles will be reflected in day‑to‑day interactions, and genuine concern for a job done correctly and with regard to others.
- Ability to work effectively with an authority/supervisor.
- Knowledge of the principles of supervision and skill in the practice of them.
- Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms.
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers, parents, and related agencies.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
- Able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks.
- Anticipate needs of the assigned work area.
- Maintaining a professional demeanor at all times with staff, families, and community.
- Ability to function with maturity and sensitivity.
- Prioritizing tasks due to the urgent nature of all job components.
