Staff Nurse (RN) – Surgical Oncology
Scope of PositionThe Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed toward achieving positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in their own plan of care, and reducing the length of hospitalization.
The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care.
The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.
Responsibilities- Manage and provide direct nursing care to patients in surgical oncology unit.
- Direct and supervise nursing care delivered by team members.
- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care.
- Deliver care for a wide range of oncology patients (breast, thoracic, orthopedic, gynecologic, urology, neurology, hepatopancreatobiliary, head and neck, and other intra‑abdominal cancers).
- Develop specialty skills in airway management and free flap care.
- Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program.
- Current Ohio nursing license or interim permit.
- Experience in a relevant care setting preferred.
This fast‑paced, high‑acuity unit cares for patients with a variety of cancers. Nurses manage a range of acuity levels from observation to progressive care.
