Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to assist in the daily operation of golf courses, ball field maintenance and cemeteries. Applies or assists in the application of pesticides and fertilizers. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Examples of Duties Essential Functions- Inventories and orders equipment, materials, tools and supplies.
- Inspects golf courses to determine condition of tees, greens, fairways and cart paths.
- Changes and places greens cups and moves tee markers on golf courses.
- Schedules turf seeding and maintenance.
- Operates and repairs golf course equipment and machinery.
- Calibrates and operates pesticide application equipment.
- Monitors, repairs and adjusts irrigation and drainage systems including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
- Provides technical assistance and instruction in the use and care of mowing, irrigation, pesticide and equipment; and the proper use of fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides and pest controls.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of golf course or grounds maintenance experience, including six months experience as a leadman for a work crew or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be certified as a Pesticide Applicator in the State of Kentucky or obtain within one year of employment (KRS 217B).
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work.
- Lifts and carries items weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Lifts and carries items weighing over 70 pounds in a team setting.
- Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing.
- Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements.
- Bright/dim light;
Dusts and pollen. - Extreme heat and/or cold;
Wet or humid conditions. - Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
- Vibration;
Fumes and/or noxious odors. - Traffic;
Moving machinery.
