We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of part‑time permanent in the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Muskingum River State Park located in Morgan County. Job SummaryThis is a part‑time position budgeted for 1,800 hours per fiscal year (approximately 34 hours per week). The position will require work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
What You Will Do- Work outside in some of the most beautiful parks in Ohio;
- Operate and maintain the historic Muskingum River Navigation System, allowing boats to safely pass through the only hand‑operated lock system remaining in the country;
- Act as lead maintenance worker using carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and equipment operation skills;
- Maintain a variety of park equipment and vehicles;
- Interact daily with a variety of customers who use the park & watercraft facilities;
- Operate a boat to mark and maintain navigation channels;
- Starting hourly pay $22.60/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 5.5 years of service, ending at $25.77/hr; cost‑of‑living adjustments (COLA) may also be applied. Longevity pay supplements begin after five (5) years of state service. For more details, refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule & longevity rates.
Pesticide applicator license as issued by Department of Agriculture required within one year of hire; positions operating watercraft must complete boat operator education course per Ohio Revised Code 1547.05.
Unusual Working ConditionsMay be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, and noise; chemical spray; water; evenings, weekends, and holidays; inclement weather; dangerous machinery; unpleasant odors, human & animal waste, outdoor elements (e.g., animals, insects, poison ivy). Requires 12 months of safety, shop, hand & power tool, carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing, equipment operation training or equivalent experience, and a valid driver’s license.
