Position Description

The University of Louisville is seeking a Temporary Mechanical Research Engineer (R&D Engineer) with expertise in Optics and Thermal Engineering to support an advanced research and development project focused on the characterization of functional materials. This position requires approximately 20 hours per week on an hourly-pay basis and involves designing and conducting experiments, operating optical and thermal measurement systems, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of innovative characterization methods.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics, heat transfer, thermal transport, experimental metrology, and data analysis, with experience in laboratory research environments. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting experimental setups, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary research team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply optical and thermal engineering expertise to impactful R&D challenges while developing and refining advanced experimental techniques.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
