Public Safety Officer - Late Watch

Job Description:

Bellarmine University Department of Public Safety has an immediate opening for a full-time Public Safety Officer. Responsibilities include working as directed by the Director of Public Safety to ensure a safe campus for students, faculty and staff. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.

• Check and secure buildings, including authorized admittance, and complete building patrols as directed.
• Report thefts, acts of violence, and violations of local laws and campus regulations.
• Patrol campus for any unusual situations that could endanger the university community.
• Enforce traffic control and traffic regulations, including assisting disabled vehicles.
• Safeguard all campus properties and human life.
• Maintain good order and discipline throughout all university facilities at all times following established guidelines.
• Administer first aid/CPR (if certified) to injured persons until the arrival of EMS units.
• Work to prevent vandalism, fire/hazard occurrences and provide other safety awareness.
• Provide security for athletic or other functions as directed by the Director of Public Safety.
• Direct building evacuations in the event of fire, bomb threats, or natural disaster.
• Perform duties within the scope of the assigned position; refer matters beyond that scope to the Director of Public Safety.
• Perform all duties with proper attention to improving public relations between the university community and local law enforcement agencies.

Minimum Qualifications for Consideration

• Applicant must have a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or at least two years of security or corrections experience is preferred.
• Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of CPR and first aid is a plus.

Working Conditions

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for an extensive amount of time while patrolling the campus.
