Working Calendar: 261 days / 4 hours
All mechanics receive a $6.50 per hour stipend per JCPS School Board (approved for the 2025-26 school year; may be reapproved in the future).
Scope Of ResponsibilitiesResponds to the mechanical needs for vehicular preventive maintenance and breakdown repair. Must be willing to participate in a continuing educational development program in upgrading technical skills. Makes extensive and skillful repairs to all mechanical devices/parts of vehicles.
MECHANIC ASalary
Schedule:
1B, Grade 10
Estimated starting hourly range: $29.12 - $36.84 (includes $6.50 stipend for 25-26 SY)
Subject to experience verification
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, trucks, and cars
- Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Master Automotive Service Excellence certification (valid for life of employment; no retest required)
- Effective communication skills
Salary
Schedule:
1B, Grade 8
Estimated starting hourly range: $27.44 - $34.59 (includes $6.50 stipend for 25-26 SY)
Subject to experience verification
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, trucks, and cars
- Two (2) years as a mechanic's helper
- Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Effective communication skills
Salary

Estimated starting hourly range: $26.62 - $33.50 (includes $6.50 stipend for 25-26 SY)

- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, trucks, and cars
- Technical vocational training or commensurate work experience
- Ability to secure CDL when eligible (21 years of age)
