High School education or equivalent (GED). Position requires a minimum of five years of experience in the following areas:
Knowledge of electrical/security technologies, installation of new equipment/materials, repair and troubleshoot existing electrical equipment/materials, interpretation of technical materials. Knowledge of installation and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment, skilled in blueprint reading, ability to problem solve. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

Must be able to cooperate with co-workers on group projects. In the work environment, safety and/or health may be a factor (e.g., exposure to dirt, dust, varying temperatures and dangerous equipment). The work involves moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, stooping and bending. Working in close proximity to motorized equipment and tools require normal vision and hearing acuity. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Operates a motor vehicle to respond to various locations and inspects, repairs, installs and maintains electrical circuits and equipment. Inspects, repairs, installs and maintains low and high voltage service ranging from 12 to 460 volts, three phase. Bends and installs conduit as required. Serves as lead on electrical installations and electrical service on projects and renovations. Repairs, installs and services security equipment including, card access, fire alarm, intrusion and camera systems.

Makes electrical sketches, reads blue prints, provides cost estimates, recommends purchase of appropriate materials, maintains inventory of equipment and materials, completes required reports, assists outside vendors and is active in project engineering. Promotes and implements energy efficient and retrofit programs. Provides electrical leadership to other employees engaged in the support of electrical repairs.

Performs general county facility maintenance work including, but not limited to; install and repair plumbing fixtures and water heaters; reads blue prints to determine locations of equipment and routing of existing service piping; performs general carpentry and plumbing work; snow removal; grounds keeping, etc.

Repairs, replaces and re-wires HVAC motors, compressors, controls. Evacuates systems, re-charges units and inspects for safety and operating functions.

Works alone or with other persons in short- or long-term team projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of county operations or to complete assigned projects at the direction of any county supervisor or Department Head when assigned. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in area of cross-training as necessary. New and other related duties as assigned. Reports safety/risk management issues to immediate supervisor.
