Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to serve as a lead person, driver, and tipper on a specific refuse collection route. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Maintains safe and efficient operation of solid waste collection vehicles, operates mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse and recyclable materials.
  • Records work performed on trip card.
  • Operates a packer truck for collecting refuse and garbage.
  • Performs pre-trip/ post-trip vehicle inspections and completes daily worksheet for equipment operated.
  • Ensures that all refuse on a specific route is picked up.
  • Notifies immediate supervisor of any problems encountered such as property damage or injuries.
  • Prepares truck for route assignments.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
  • Carries out written and oral instructions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain within three months of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical agility test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
  • Bright/dim light;
    Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold;
    Wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
  • Vibration;
    Fumes and/or noxious odors.
  • Traffic;
    Moving machinery.

ESSENTIAL

Every manager/supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained, safe work practices are followed and employees are properly trained.

  • Hourly Rate: Starting at $20.78 per hour
  • Pay Progression:
    • Step 1: $20.78/hour – 0-3 Months
    • Step 2: $21.14/hour - 3-6 Months
    • Step 3: $21.87/hour – 6+ Months
  • Class B CDL: $1.00 per hour
