Job DescriptionThis position is Part-Time, 10 hours per week, 40 weeks, $34.27 per hour. It is for the 2026-27 school year only.
Proper certification in the grade level and content area is required.
Position: Part-Time Title Tutor
Reports to: Building Principal
Employment Status: Regular/Part-Time
Description: Provide tutorial services for students in grades 6-8, ELA, within the district.
NOTE: The following list is not ranked in order of importance.
Essential Functions- Ensure safety of students.
- Tutor in the assigned subject area and evaluate students using sound instructional practices.
- Effectively manage individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment.
- Prepare clear and timely lesson plans.
- Evaluate student subject level.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
- Provide guidance and counsel to students to promote their welfare and proper educational development.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences.
- Counsel with colleagues, students and parents.
- Attend educational field trips.
- Distribute homework assignments.
- Ensure students are learning all subject material by testing or quizzing regularly.
- Provide complete lesson plans for substitute teachers.
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational‑related purposes outside the instruction day.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences.
- Tutor students in the locations and at the times designated.
- Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable classroom behavior rules to maintain order fairly and justly.
- Notify parents if a student is not meeting classroom goals.
- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the content standards approved by the Board of Education.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations using a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable for the learners’ level.
- Act as a teacher, facilitator and information source in the subject area specialty.
- Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities that enable students to learn in varied ways.
- Participate on building "teams" when requested and agreed upon.
- Organize subject‑specific programs within the assigned building, e.g., Right to Read Week.
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information (e.g., home and discipline situations, medical background and family history).
- Interact positively with staff, students and parents.
- Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
- Attend meetings and in‑services as required by the Principal.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Proper certification in the grade level and content area required.
- Alternatives may be accepted if approved by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education.
- Knowledge of the academic area and teaching methodology.
- Basic knowledge of all other subject matter.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Effective, active listening skills.
- Organizational and problem‑solving skills.
