Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Operations Accounting, the Inventory Accountant will perform daily analysis of gross margin, inventory, and cost accounting reports for one region of the company and work with the appropriate individuals to resolve any exceptions or issues. The Inventory Accountant works closely with Branch and Division personnel to ensure accurate reporting of margins and inventory transactions and to answer questions regarding inventory counts, adjustments, or other inventory‑related inquiries.
KeyTasks
- Perform daily analysis of gross margin and inventory reports for one region of the company.
- Work closely with the Branch Managers and Branch personnel to ensure accurate reporting of margins and inventory transactions.
- Assist Regional Finance Managers and Analysts in researching any inventory transactions resulting in questionable margins or inventory levels.
- Complete monthly SOX reports to ensure proper internal controls over inventory transactions.
- Perform validity checks before posting inventory adjustments submitted by the branches.
- Assist Division personnel with consignment inventory contracts.
- Assist Division personnel with required yearly physical counts of inventory at each branch – including participation in physical counts of inventory and reconciliation of inventory counts and adjusting variances.
- Accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliation and transactional review.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned by Inventory Supervisors, Operations Accounting Sr. Manager, or other Operations Accounting Management.
- Travel approximately 5% of the time for attendance at Regional/Divisional Meetings, visits to Branches, and attendance at inventory counts or recounts.
- Ability to work well with a variety of different business areas within the company.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Ability to prioritize and work with competing deadlines.
- Strong verbal, written communication, strong computer (MS Office – Excel), analytical, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and analyze issues and apply accounting standards to reflect accurate financial reporting.
- People Soft and/or SAP experience a plus.
- Strong integrity and business ethics.
- BS/BA Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 0–3 years of accounting experience.
- Accounting designations not required.
