Inventory Accountant I
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Operations Accounting, the Inventory Accountant will perform daily analysis of gross margin, inventory, and cost accounting reports for one region. This role involves working with appropriate individuals to resolve any exceptions or issues. The Inventory Accountant will collaborate with Branch and Division personnel to ensure accurate reporting of margins and inventory transactions and will address inquiries regarding inventory counts, adjustments, or other related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily analysis of gross margin and inventory reports for one region of the company.
- Work closely with Branch Managers and personnel to ensure accurate reporting of margins and inventory transactions.
- Assist Regional Finance Managers and Analysts in researching inventory transactions that result in questionable margins or inventory levels.
- Complete monthly SOX reports to ensure proper internal controls over inventory transactions.
- Perform validity checks on inventory adjustments submitted by branches.
- Assist Division personnel with consignment inventory.
- Support yearly physical inventory counts at each branch, including participation, reconciliation, and variance adjustments.
- Perform accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliation, and transactional review.
- Handle special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
- Approximately 5% travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
A BS/BA Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field is required. Candidates must have strong computer skills, including MS Office (specifically Excel), as well as analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail. The ability to understand and analyze issues and apply accounting standards for accurate financial reporting is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of ERP systems is an asset.
- Experience with People Soft and/or SAP is a plus.
