Energy Code Specialist
This position coordinates the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the City's building energy codes while providing analytical and coordination support to climate-related initiatives. The role manages code cycles, compliance processes, training, and stakeholder engagement, and contributes data-informed insights to support building performance and climate objectives.
The salary range for this position is $85,272.51 - $ annually with a hiring range of $85,272.51 - $, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be open until filled.

Essential Functions:
- Coordinate development, adoption, and implementation of building energy codes and related amendments in alignment with City goals.
- Manage long-term planning and short-term update cycles for building energy codes, including evaluation of performance and compliance outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal departments, regional partners, the County, and State agencies to support consistency and best practices across jurisdictions.
- Provide analytical interpretation of building performance, compliance, and energy-related data to inform recommendations and program adjustments
- Support climate initiatives by supplying technical, policy, and data analysis related to building energy use and performance.
- Develop and deliver training for inspectors, plans examiners, engineers, and other staff on energy code requirements and updates.
- Maintain educational materials, guidance documents, and web resources for contractors, developers, and property owners.
- Provide staff-level interpretation of energy and building performance code requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
- Track metrics related to building energy codes, identify trends or gaps, and propose process improvements.
- Present energy/building code related recommendations to the Loveland Utilities Commission, Construction Advisory Board, Planning Commission, and City Council.

Job Functions:
- Monitor and support alignment with state and regional initiatives such as Building Performance Colorado and model building codes.
- Participate in interdepartmental, interagency, and professional meetings related to energy codes and building performance.
- Assist with program coordination activities including reporting, documentation, and presentations.
- Support evaluation of pathways for electric-ready, solar-ready, and higher-performance construction practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Required:
4 Year/Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science or related field from an accredited college or university required. Master Electrician license may also qualify depending on experience.
Experience:
- Required:
A minimum of five (5) years related experience required, preferably working in the building energy code and/or electric utility sector. - Preferred:
Prior experience in municipal utility setting.
Certifications:
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of building energy codes, building science principles, and construction practices.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data related to building performance, compliance, and energy use.
- Skill in coordinating with diverse stakeholders across technical, policy, and operational contexts.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly in writing, presentations, and training settings.
- Familiarity with state and model initiatives such as Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Code, Model Green Code, and Model Low Energy and Carbon Code.

Working Conditions:
- Frequent:
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal. - Working Environment:

Exposure to routine office noise and equipment. Occasional:
Exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
