Provide quality instruction for the benefit of the participants. The days of work and hours will vary with each class but may include evenings and weekends.

The salary range for this position is $15.76−$21.27 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Position will remain open until filled.

This is a part‑time position working on average less than 20 hours per week.

Essential Functions
  • Introduce participants to a variety of cooking techniques, ingredients, and cuisines from around the world while promoting kitchen safety, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen.
  • Ensure compliance with all food handling, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Purchase, organize, and manage ingredients and supplies within established budgets.
  • Provide safe and effective class instruction to registered participants.
  • Develop and implement age‑appropriate lesson plans featuring a variety of cuisines and cooking styles, including but not limited to Italian, Mexican, Chinese, American, Mediterranean, French, and other international dishes.
  • Participate in required training.
  • Inspect classroom/program environment, equipment, materials and ingredients to ensure safety.
  • Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as skills assessment of participants, attendance sheets, class evaluations, and class description for brochures.
  • Provide make‑up sessions as required.
  • Communicate effectively with recreation staff, participants, and parents/guardians.
Other Job Functions
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • 1 year experience teaching cooking classes required.
  • Some coursework in recreation, education, or related field preferred.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of hire.
Certifications
  • Current First Aid and C.P.R. certification or ability to obtain First Aid and C.P.R. certification within 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of the specific discipline.
  • Work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and diplomacy.
  • Must demonstrate competent organizational and planning skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Frequent light to moderate physical effort that includes standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks; frequently works with light objects and hand tools.
  • Frequent exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
Additional Working Demands and Conditions
  • Must be able to lead and demonstrate the skill and/or activity.
  • Required to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends; will work extensive hours in an indoor environment.
  • May require pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, positioning and moving equipment necessary for the activity.
  • Must possess the strength and stamina to perform strenuous physical activity.
