Structural Engineer, Civil Engineering
FUNCTION
The Civil/Structural Engineer is responsible for performing structural engineering design, analysis and documentation in support of engineered systems, equipment, and facilities developed by James Fisher Technologies. This role contributes to the development of structural solutions that support project requirements, regulatory compliance, and safe operation within nuclear, industrial, and government environments. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the Civil Structural Engineer develops structural calculations, specifications, and design documentation while coordinating with mechanical, systems, and project engineers to ensure structural elements are effectively integrated into overall project designs.
The role also supports design reviews, technical evaluations, and engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
Analysis Lead
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform structural design and analysis of steel structures, equipment supports, lifting structures, concrete structures, foundations, and anchorage systems.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate codes and standards (AISC, ACI, ASCE, ASME, NQA-1).
- Perform analysis using hand calculations and engineering analysis software such as RISA, STAAD, ANSYS, SAP
2000. - Evaluate loads including dead, live, seismic, wind, thermal, and equipment loads.
- Contribute to the development of analysis reports, technical documentation, and DOE deliverables.
- Review design documents and customer specifications for constructability.
- Participate in all phases of engineering design projects, from conceptual design through test and commissioning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to inform design decisions with actionable analysis outputs.
- Author and check calculation packages for support structures.
- Utilize bounding assumptions to simplify the analysis.
- Utilize judgment to minimize the number of load cases required.
- Advanced solid modeling:
Autodesk Inventor to create parametric solid models for analysis for engineering drawings and design packages. - Participate in 30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% design reviews.
- Analyze production methods and systems to identify opportunities for cost reduction, automation, and optimization.
Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors is essential. Will lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically under 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems may also be necessary.
TYPICALWORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily a shop environment with work regularly performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.
