About the Position
The County of Riverside is seeking a dynamic and innovative Claims Adjuster
! The position is within the Human Resources Department, Workers’ Compensation Division. This is a full-time position with benefits, located in downtown Riverside.
Hourly Salary Range
: $25.71 – $34.37/hour.
Annual Salary Range (Claims Adjuster II): $53,481.58 – $71,492.51/year.
Key Responsibilities- The position is responsible for investigating and adjusting claims to determine compensability as well as reserving and settling cases within authority limits, including indemnity claims and a heavily litigated caseload; requires knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, medical management, subrogation, and the new permanent disability schedule.
- Review, investigate, and process reports and claims concerning on‑job injuries or job‑related illnesses of County employees; determine compensability, arrange disability evaluation appointments, maintain medical control, and respond to inquiries from insurers, doctors, and legal professionals.
- Evaluate advisory and informal ratings as a basis for claims settlement; rate permanent disabilities according to the California Rating Schedule; approve payment for medical services, temporary disability, and permanent disability awards subject to delegated authority.
- Prepare subrogation recovery cases; analyze investigative and police reports; arrange special investigations and medical examinations.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze statistical data on claims expenditure trends and provide appropriate reports and recommendations; stay abreast of current Workers’ Compensation and civil claims litigation.
Extensive journey‑level experience reviewing and processing Workers’ Compensation, on‑job injuries, job‑related illnesses, physical disability, personal injury, medical malpractice or property damage liability claims including investigating, fraud identification, adjusting, and settling a wide variety of claims.
Candidates must have achieved the level of Experienced Claims Adjuster (as defined by California Code of Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 5, Subchapter
3). Acceptable qualifications include:
- Working 5 out of the last 8 years as a California Workers’ Comp Claims Adjuster.
- Continuous work in California adjusting claims since passing the Self‑Insurance Test.
- Passed the Self‑Insurance Test within the last 2 years.
An Insurance Educational Association (
IEA
), Workers’ Compensation Claims Professional (WCCP) or Self‑Insurance Certificate is desirable.
