The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Performs a variety of tasks including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign monitoring, nutrition support, transfer assistance, ROM exercises, food preparation, documentation, and housekeeping.
Supports the nursing team with procedures, infection prevention and control, PPE use, and recreational programs. May assist in restorative nursing programs and departmental committees.
- Deliver age‑appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs per care plan.
- Assist residents with basic health care needs and daily living activities.
- Perform transfers, repositioning, and walking with proper techniques.
- Monitor and record vital signs and assist with nutrition.
- Document resident interactions, care outcomes, and behavioral observations.
- Communicate changes in resident condition to charge nurse.
- Collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens.
- Maintain clean and safe living areas, including housekeeping and laundry.
- Support wellness and recreational programs encouraging resident participation.
- Participate in committees, task forces, and restorative nursing activities as needed.
- Adhere to infection prevention, control policies, and PPE usage.
- High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
- Minimum age 16.
- Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with State Board of Nursing.
- Completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and ongoing education (minimum 12 hours annually).
- May be required to complete Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.
- Certification/registration with Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry where applicable.
- Possible Driver Category II qualification, including vehicle report and valid driver’s license, if required by facility.
