Position: Water Meter Tech I

Our Water Meter Tech I performs installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of ¾” to 6” water meters for the City of Loveland Utilities. Assists with customer concerns, meter investigations, and general water distribution system maintenance. Assist staff performing water taps ranging from 3/4" to 2", and sewer taps, 4" and 6".

Installs, deploys, programs, troubleshoots, and maintains the water AMI system, including endpoints and related communication infrastructure, to ensure accurate data collection and system reliability.

Provides professional customer service by responding to water-related inquiries, explaining usage and billing information, and assisting with meter accuracy, leak concerns, and other water service issues.

After six months, the incumbent will actively participate in the after-hours duty rotation, playing a key role in keeping the City’s water system running smoothly, with the added benefit of overtime and extra compensation.

The salary range for this position is $25.42 - $34.32 per hour with a hiring range of $25.42 - $29.87, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be available to applicants until filled.

Essential Functions
  • Assembles, installs, maintains, tests, exchanges and repairs ¾” to 6” water meters.
  • Performs ¾” to 2” water taps. Performs 4” and 6” sewer taps.
  • Operates meter test bench to verify accuracy of meters.
  • Maintains precise records and information with respect to meter history and performance.
  • Performs Inspections of water meter vaults, meter pits, service lines and sewer service installs/taps.
  • Uses a daily work order system (CIS) to complete service orders such as leak checks, pressure checks, turn off/on, meter tests, GPS, meter downloads, customer complaints and any other public relation needs.
  • Upgrade existing water infrastructure to meet current standards.
  • Repair, install, or maintain water meter appurtenances.
  • Provides technical support to utility billing and meter reading.
  • Assists with coordination of projects or problems of adjacent water districts.
  • Assists with capital project infrastructure work.
  • Assists water operations with water main breaks, service line repairs, jetting and sewer backups.
  • Assists with maintenance and repairs on large PRV’s.
  • Assists with installation and deployment of a water AMI system.
  • Maintains and repairs future AMI system endpoints and infrastructure.
  • Understands and follows local and state drinking water regulations.
Other Job Functions
  • Provides feedback and information to supervisor to support budget development, capital planning, and special projects related to water distribution and metering infrastructure.
  • Performs routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on assigned equipment and vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Utilizes electronic service order systems to receive, document, and close work orders, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and timely response to customer requests.
  • Uses digital mapping tools and GIS software to locate water mains, services, valves, meters, and other distribution system assets, and updates records as needed.
  • Operates and interfaces with electronic field equipment, including handheld devices, meter programming tools, and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) technology for meter installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and data verification.
  • Assists with deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water AMI endpoints and communication devices to support accurate meter data collection and transmission.
