Performs installation, maintenance and repair on water distribution and wastewater collection facilities. Operates a variety of heavy equipment, specialized equipment and other department-related equipment. Work weeks consist of Monday through Friday 7am to 3.30pm. May include after-hours call back.

The salary range for this position is $19.07- $25.74 per hour, with a hiring range of $19.07 - $22.40 depending on qualifications and experience.

This opportunity will remain open until Thursday August 13, 2026, 12:00 PM MST.

This position is temporary 10-month max working 40 hours per week with medical coverage option only.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs or replaces water distribution and wastewater collection facilities and lines, fire hydrants, water valves and water services.
  • Maintains equipment and vehicles such as dump trucks, front end loader, excavator and other applicable equipment.
  • Ensures truck is stocked with necessary materials and tools, and all equipment is ready for the next job.
  • Uses proper safety apparel, procedures and equipment per City standards.
  • Ability to work safely in very high traffic areas.
  • Subject to call-back work and must be capable of responding to an emergency situation upon short notice.

Job Functions:

  • Assists other work groups in the Water and Power Department and other City departments and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Keeps accurate and meaningful records.
  • Maintains assigned equipment to specifications, i.e., uses correct fuel, checks gauges, fluid levels, and makes sure equipment is clean both inside and out.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Some experience in underground utilities, water, and/or wastewater systems preferred.

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of operational procedures of construction equipment, hazards and necessary safety precautions common to equipment operation.
  • Ability to recognize and report abnormal operating function of equipment.
  • General knowledge of construction methods and equipment.
  • General knowledge of safety practices and procedures of the department including trench, traffic control, and personal protective equipment. Knowledge of confined space entry and the ability to work in confine spaces.
  • Ability to operate equipment and use tools in all kinds of weather.
  • General knowledge of pipe materials and repair parts used by the department.
  • Working knowledge of a distribution and collection systems.
  • Working knowledge of water taps and meter installations.
  • Operates assigned equipment safely under all conditions, i.e., weather, stress, time of day, etc.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

  • Frequent: moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
  • Frequent: e xposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
  • Occasional: exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.

Additional Working Demands / Conditions:

  • Work is generally performed outside and occasionally during inclement weather.
  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Strenuous physical work may involve moving, positioning, bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling and pushing or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Manual dexterity is required to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools, power tools and motor vehicles.
  • Work may involve long hours and require working after hours, holidays, weekends, etc.
  • Mandatory duty rotation will include after-hour and weekend work.
